    Original antique 1846 handwritten letter from Charles Downing (pomologist / horticulturist brother of A.J. ?) to Philip Sharpless regarding bricks / improvements at the Quaker Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania ~ please see scans for condition details ~ 4 pages, only written on pages 1 and 4, as shown, pale blue paper with ivory mottling; "P.S. & Co." blind embossed mark upper left; pages 3-4 with tear and small piece missing ~ back (page 4) used as envelope with postal stamps and folds as shown ~ good to very good overall ~ 8" x 8.25"
