Chinese Republic Famille rose stacking box with floral design and lid c 1920s

Description

Delicate colorful flowers have been painted all over the lid and boxes. The sections match up so it looks like a single unit.
Three pieces of porcelain have been potted to comprise a stacking box with lid. The outside of the box and lid is extensively decorated with flowers using rose, yellow, green, pale green, iron red, and blue green over glaze enamels. Black was used to outline and accent. The lid has an unglazed flange that fits the unglazed mouth edges of the box sections. It has a small star shaped metal pull that is fixed through the lid.
The box was hand painted and hand potted. You can see the potter’s wheel marks on the unglazed surfaces.  The glaze is thick with glaze reserves and dark spots. The potting is fairly thin but has weight to it. The box sections have shallow unglazed foot rings and the bases are glazed.
There are marks in red glaze on the undersides of both sections. The words DEINCHINA are stamped on in a semi-circle. It should have read “Made in China”; the words overlap and part of the word “made” is missing.
MEASUREMENTS
4 7/8” (12.4 cm) x 2 5/8” (6.7 cm) tall diameter. Weighs 1 lb 4.6 oz (580 g)
CONDITION
There are no cracks, or breaks. The bottom box has what feels like a chip, but is a kiln flaw with the glaze because it is glazed over. You can feel it but it’s not visible. The glazes are fresh and bright. It has kiln flaws in the glaze such as reserves, black spots and pimples.
A colorful, delicate hand potted and painted porcelain box that will add interest and color to your home. I love how the designs on the two sections match up nicely.
